How I Make My Collars, Harnesses & Leashes

My collars, strap harnesses and leashes are handmade from 4 folded layers of 100% cotton fabrics with a heavy duty craft bond fused interfacing and all collars and strap harnesses are now sewn with nylon or polyester #64 sun guard industrial thread with reinforced stitching at all stress points. All hardware sets are top quality, acetal side release curved buckles, solid nickel plated d ring and slip locks. All of my leashes feature a steel welded nickel swivel bolt snaps, so your leash won't get twisted.

My fabric vests are made with two layers of fabric and a light weight fusible interfacing. They attach at the neck and chest with an industrial strength Velcro closure. The d-ring is attached with a strap made the same as my collars. All fabric vest are available with a acetal side release curved buckle at the neck for extra safety if you need it.

Care: My collars, harness and leashes are all hand or machine washable. Line or tumble dry on low. If necessary you may iron on medium heat. I do not preshrink my fabrics so it is best to allow your collar, harness or leash to line dry. (Because of the metal D-Ring on my products it may not be suitable for your washing machine, I place mine with tags on in a small mesh laundry bag.)

You can also keep items clean between washings by treating them with a fabric protector like Scotch Guard after each washing.

All Prices on my site includes standard shipping to address in the US only.

Why Choose a Harness Over A Collar

There are many reasons owners choose to use a harness over a collar for walking, including behavior issues, training, safety concerns and medical conditions.

Harness can be used on all most any dog instead of a collar or with a collar. Dog harnesses make it simpler for you to control a pulling dog, and the harness is more comfortable for your dog. A basic dog harness goes around your dog’s chest and front legs. The clip for the leash is usually centered between your dog’s shoulder blades.

The harness is recommended by many dog trainers and animal behaviorists as a harness has many advantages over a collar in some very basic and humane ways: A dog harness distributes force evenly throughout the dog. Instead of yanking the dog’s head, you can pull on a harness and the dog feels his entire center of gravity being moved. This is a much more humane way of applying force to a dog, when force is needed.

For some small dog owners harnesses become a medical necessity due to a condition called collapsing trachea. The trachea (the airway to the lungs) of these animals can become flattened or completely collapse as a result of pressure on the throat, such as when pulling on the collar during walks. Also dog such as Dachshund and other long breeds it is a necessity to use a harness over a collar so you do not rupture their disc.

Harnesses are also more difficult for a dog to slip out of than a flat buckle collar, so for dogs that have a relatively large neck when compared to their head (e.g. greyhounds, pugs, etc.) a harness can be essential as they can easily pull out of many collars. These dogs may slip their head through collar.
